Self catering accommodation for 2 or 3 people, Peak District, Reviewed 1 Sep 2008 by Yvonne Alton
1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
The location itself was very quiet and peaceful, but only a short journey to the facilities of the nearest town. It was amusing to be greeted by the free range chickens each time we went out.
2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
The location offers very easy access both to outdoor activities and to the cultural facilities of the nearest town. Our hosts were most hospitable and had provided many additional items for our use during our stay.
3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?
The whole accommodation complex has been designed to be environmentally sustainable; with energy saving technology built in and our hosts operate good environmental practice in terms of day to day activities, and expected us to do so too. Local produce (including the very local eggs) was available, and local crafts and places to eat were suggested.
4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
We could not fault any aspect of the accommodation or location. Our holiday was excellent.
Self catering farmstay in Tuscany, reviewed 15 Oct 2007 by Corinne Welch
1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
A truffle hunting trip and long walks around the farm estate.
2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
The olive oil, honey and fig jam made on the farm are delicious.
3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?
You need a car to get around, due to the isolated location, but other than that the holiday felt very low impact. The accommodation had been very sympathetically renovated; you need to separate and manage your own rubbish (including feeding food scraps to their gorgeous pigs Miriam and Sylvio); and good recommendations were given for local restaurants and shops. If anything, they could make more of the environmental benefits of the accommodation, as it's worth shouting about.
4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
Perfect - the best week's holiday we've ever had. The accommodation was very comfortable, the surroundings were idyllic, and the views breathtaking. Very peaceful and relaxing, with lovely outside eating areas, a hammock and a pool. Close proximity to local market towns, as well as Florence, Siena and Pisa (although it was so enjoyable spending time around the farm, we were reluctant to leave).
We'll definitely go back.
