Green Baby was set-up in Autumn 1999 by Jill Barker. Canadian Jill had the idea of setting up Green Baby when on maternity leave with her first son Thomas. Jill had been surprised that, compared with Canada, finding natural baby products in the UK was comparatively hard.
In particular, she was surprised at how few parents opted for washable nappies. While on the increase it still accounts for only around 15% of babies in Britain. And so she set up Green Baby.
Response has been phenomenal, now in addition to three stores in Islington, London N1, Notting Hill, London W11, and Greenwich, London SE10 there is also a thriving mail order and wholesale business.
Award winning - we were excited and honoured to win the Prima Baby 2009 award, for best eco range

We produce all of our fairly traded organic children's clothing and bedding at Assisi Garments, in association with sense-organics, in South India, a member of the World Fair Trade Organization. This community project, managed by the Sisters of Assisi, runs a school for deaf girls and the organic clothing factory was set up to provide jobs for them when they finish their education. It now provides them with a place to live, all their meals and a fair wage.
Why choose organic?
When you choose to buy organic childrenswear, whether it's a babygrow, or a pair of organic pyjamas, you’re choosing to make a difference to your future, your children’s health and the future health of the planet we live on. Decades of poor agricultural practice; the use of dangerous pesticides and fertilisers, GM crops and general soil mismanagement, can be reversed but only if we promise the farmers that we will support them. Your choice is vital in helping companies like ours sustain them as they change the world. Choosing organic cotton is healthy for farmers, healthy for plants, healthy for animals and healthy for kids!
